This Site is owed, operated and maintained by Robert Burton
but it is open to submissions by any Fly Fisher in Manitoba

The main reason I started on this web journey is basically quite simple and selfish. As a new resident (2000) I want to learn more about fly fishing in this province. The other reason was I want to have a place to connect all the fly fishers of Manitoba. While fishing I would meet (some what rarely) other fly fishers or I would meet those interested in fly fishing. So now when I do (or when you do) we have a place to meet and share. And the address is simple so when you meet someone who lives or visits Manitoba and fly fishes or someone who is interested just send them to flyfishingmanitoba.com.

The Message Board

The heart beat and the staring point for this site is the message board. I started it on a whim really. I already belonged to a Manitoba bird watching group that used a yahoo email handler. I thought a group similar to that would be good for fly fishers. So I started one in March of 2003. Soon though the group got large and vocal and I felt the need for something with more versatility. So I set up a message board in August of 2003 with the power to have different topic sections, internal messages and much more groovy stuff.

But this site is mostly to attract people to the message board. Any question asked benefits all. You may think your question is too basic but if you ask it you are also asking on behalf of anyone else who might want to ask that question!

I started this section to help the curious answer their own questions about fly fishing. The best part is that it is free and you can attend from your home or office. So look around have fun learn and if you have questions please email me or go to the message board.

Thoughts About Fly Rodding in Manitoba

When most think of fly fishing they think of clear mountain streams and trout. Well we have that in Manitoba (well maybe not the mountains) but we have a lot more. And what we have is variety! Yes trout (rainbow, brown, brook and tiger trout as well as lakers, arctic char, spar and splake)   but for decades fly fishers in Manitoba have been casting their flies at so called 'alternative species'. Channel cats, carp fresh water drum, goldeye, moon eye, white bass, walleye, small mouth bass and pike are on the warm water plate. If you live in Manitoba you already know about the variety of species. Now you may be ready to catch these fish on a fly rod
